How to be MASTER flying abroad!

10 tips every traveler must know

So you’re headed for vacation, and you have an incredibly long flight ahead… You’re feeling anxious and worried about the stress and discomfort flying can bring… What if we told you that your vacation can begin the second you step onto the plane? Believe it or not, it’s totally possible! These 10 tips will help you prepare and master your experience in the air!

  1. Hydration is key! Make sure to chug tons of water and drink clean, green juices the day before you fly. Keep the water intake flowin’ throughout the plane ride to keep your body healthy and prepped for adventure! *Isle seats may be helpful for those bathroom breaks ;)

  2. Feed your belly with the good stuff. Be sure to pack healthy snacks to bring with you on the flight. Many of the options airplane menus offer can be pretty unhealthy, and upset your stomach. Save your digestion, and a pretty penny by bringing your own healthy food aboard. Great snack items are nuts, fresh fruit, cut veggies with small portioned hummus packs, sandwiches, dark chocolate, etc... get creative!

  3. Ease with the essentials. Essential oils are incredibly healing and so calming for the body and mind. Peppermint is an amazing oil to help ease and alleviate nausea. Lavender is a great calming oil that will help you to sit back and totally relax.

  4. Supplement naturally. Both Kava and Valerian Root help treat anxiety, and promote relaxation. You can find these in the form of teas, tinctures, or supplement form. CBD is also great to relax (but you may not be able to travel with it, so take it before heading to the airport).

  5. Make it a Tea Party! Sip on something soothing like hot chamomile or lavender teas. If you’re looking to up your energy go for green tea! You can bring your tea bags with you and then get hot water on the plane.

  6. Move that body! Try to stand and walk around as much as possible while waiting to board your plane. Take yourself through some body-lovin’ stretches or yoga flows before you board! Also, be sure to get up every couple hours while on long flights. Take advantage of the open space in the back of the plane, and get those stiff bones, muscles & joints movin’! If your feet tend to swell, roll out your ankles and wear compression socks.

  7. Get lost in literature. Bring a light selection of good books, magazines, or your Kindle to immerse yourself in reading. Reading is a perfect way to get your body in the most calm, relaxed state, and put your mind at ease page by page.

  8. Don’t forget your Airplane Armor! Dress in layers to adjust to potential temperature changes. Wear comfy clothes, and bring items to keep you warm (socks, sweater, neck pillow, etc). Make it a spa experience, and bring eye masks to help you relax and unwind. If you want to get funky you can even bring an easy to use sheet face mask for some mid-flight facial hydration.

  9. Tune ‘em out and turn it up! Earplugs are must-haves to block out background noise… especially when you’re trying to rest, and your neighbors are throwing a plane party. A good pair of headphones are also essential. Jam out to your favorite tunes or listen to some meditations!

  10. Write it out while you ride it out. Whether you journal often or not, writing your thoughts, ideas, and setting your intentions for the trip is a great way to start your getaway. Think about how you were feeling before boarding the plane. Dig into why it is you chose to escape, and set your intentions and the outcomes you’d like to explore on vacation.

Now you have all the tools you need to start your adventure the second you step on the plane! Flying can be a fun, relaxing experience… as long as you prepare with these 10 tips! We hope to see you on the next retreat and that your flight is a breeze!
